Tacky Jacks Orange Beach
About this place
Nobody agrees on exactly when Tacky Jacks opened, because Orange Beach was not yet a city and no official records exist. The date is usually given as 1979 or 1980. What people do agree on is the origin: Jack Hodges, the original owner, ran a bait and tackle shop and then added a little bar for boaters and anglers who wanted a bite after a day on the water. In 1987 George Skipper bought the building on Cotton Bayou, renovations followed, and the restaurant became the family-friendly waterfront spot it is today. It celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2020.
All day, every day
Tacky Jacks opens at 6:30 AM for breakfast and keeps serving through lunch and dinner, closing at 10 PM Sunday to Thursday and 11 PM Friday and Saturday. The Farmer's Omelet is the breakfast order that regulars recommend, and Mexican Garbage Nachos are the shareable that shows up on many tables. Fish tacos earn praise, along with burgers, wraps, salads, fresh seafood, chicken and steak entrées.
Bushwackers and the water
Frozen Bushwackers, the Gulf Coast cocktail made with coffee and chocolate flavors, are the drink of the house, and the restaurant's Bushwacker has been voted the best on the Alabama coast. The spacious waterfront setting is relaxed, and live music and a range of artists add to the evenings. Parasailing and water sports rentals are available on site.
